AVHS Doctors Lead the Way: Educating Our Current Serving Members at RAAF Base Edinburgh
At Australian Veterans Health Services, we believe in supporting our defence community at every stage of their journey – including while they’re still serving. Recently, our team had the privilege of visiting RAAF Base Edinburgh in South Australia to connect with 50 current serving Army members about the vital services available to them through AVHS and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA).
Making Healthcare Pathways Clear
Our presentation focused on introducing AVHS and the comprehensive services we provide, while also explaining the various DVA pathways available to serving members. What made this session particularly impactful was sharing real-life examples of veterans we’ve had the honour of caring for – stories that helped illustrate how our services can make a genuine difference in veterans’ lives.
Exceptional Engagement from Our Defence Community
The response from the audience was outstanding. Welfare officers noted how engaged the serving members were throughout the presentation, with many approaching our team afterwards with specific queries about their future healthcare options. The enthusiasm was so evident that all the informational leaflets we’d left in the tearoom were taken by the end of the event – a clear sign that the information resonated with those who need it most.
Building Stronger Connections
The success of this session has opened doors for continued collaboration. Base officials have extended an invitation for AVHS to conduct more presentations and sessions throughout the remainder of the year, recognising the value of keeping current serving members informed about their future healthcare options.
Our Commitment Continues
This visit to RAAF Base Edinburgh reinforces our commitment to being there for Australia’s defence community – not just when they transition to civilian life, but while they’re still serving. By educating current serving members about AVHS services and DVA pathways, we’re helping them prepare for their future and ensuring they know support is available when they need it.
