Mental Health Services

At AVHS, we deliberately choose the term "Wellbeing" over "Mental Health." While we understand many veterans search for "mental health claims," we believe wellbeing better reflects our holistic approach to your journey. Wellbeing embraces strength and positive growth rather than focusing solely on illness or deficit. It acknowledges that your experiences have shaped you, but don't define you. By shifting this language, we hope to reduce stigma that might prevent veterans from seeking support and instead emphasise that caring for your psychological wellbeing is as natural and important as physical health. Your wellbeing matters—and seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Why AVHS?

We understand the unique challenges of military service. Whether you’re adjusting to civilian life or dealing with the lasting impacts of your service, we’re here to support you. Many of us have served or are close to someone who has, so we truly get what you're going through.

Who is Wellbeing?

Our team is made up of qualified, experienced Psychologists and Mental Health Social Workers. We were chosen because we have the professional background and personal understanding needed to support you in the best way possible.

What does Wellbeing do?

We can help with diagnostic assessments and permanent impairment evaluations. If you're navigating the Claims process, we offer up to 12 support sessions to guide you through it. These sessions focus on real, practical outcomes that help you move forward.

What concerns can we help with?

Our Psychologists and Social Workers offer a variety of therapeutic approaches to help with conditions related to military service and transition to civilian life.

The transition to civilian life is often harder than you expect. It’s a big shift that comes with its own set of challenges. Military life offers a sense of identity, purpose, and camaraderie, and it’s normal to feel a loss of those things when you leave.

Our clinicians have a deep respect for military culture and will work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.

Psychiatry Services

  • DVA require mental health diagnoses to be completed by a Psychiatrist
  • AVHS contracts our own Psychiatrists to provide assessments that meet DVA requirements
  • The Psychiatrist consult is formalised into a written report and provided to you
  • Your consent is sought to progress a claim based on the diagnosis

Please note our Psychiatrists are available for diagnostic purposes only, not for treatment.
