Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Permanent Impairment assessment?
A Permanent Impairment Assessment evaluates the long-term impact of service-related injuries or conditions. It determines the level of compensation you may be eligible for under DVA programs and potential eligibility for a Gold Card.
How long does the assessment take?
Most assessments take 60-90 minutes, though complex cases may require additional time. We ensure each veteran receives a thorough evaluation without feeling rushed.
Is there a cost for the assessment?
No. AVHS permanent impairment assessments are fully funded by DVA, with no out-of-pocket expenses for veterans.
What happens after my assessment?
After your assessment, we submit the completed report directly to DVA. It’s important to follow up with your DVA delegate to track the progress of your assessment. We recommend contacting them within 2-3 weeks of your assessment.
Can I get a copy of my assessment report?
As DVA contracts us directly to complete the medicolegal report, we upload the assessment directly to your file at DVA. You can request a copy of your report from your DVA delegate.
